Things To Do In Dorking

If you want to visit a historic market town during a visit to London, you can find one just 25miles away if you go south on the A24 which goes from London to Worthing. You can even catch a more leisurely train ride from Waterloo station which should take you there within the hour. Besides the town you will be going through the surrounding Surrey Hills area that has some outstanding natural beauty spots.

Dorking is a market town that has been around for hundreds of years and has always served as a center for villages and townspeople living around it. It also has a reputation of hosting many festivals for literature, music and the visual arts. Its origin goes back to Roman times and has inspired authors like Charles Dickens to place his characters and novel locations in that area. The composer Ralph Vaughan Williams was also inspired by the surrounding countryside.

Buildings in Dorking have a mix of buildings in Edwardian and Victorian styles and this mixture is the magic that enthralls visitors to its town center. You can even pick up some plants, vines and fruit trees from their Garden Center.
